Post by ChaimPost by evolution23Post by ChaimThis place is just totally gone, it seems. So sad. I miss the glory
days.

Hi Chaim,
I haven't been on usenet for a looong time... lost my old connection
after I moved, and haven't had the time to check out News servers.
I think everyone has gone over to the forum at the PJ website. I don't
like it... it's difficult to keep up, as you can't look at unread
messages, and there are just too many idiotic comments/fights there.
I am looking forward to seeing some Eddie solo shows in March. I wasn't
going to go, but... I have a friend from Scotland who is living in
Brisbane now, and I've always wanted to see New Zealand, so for those 3
reasons, I decided to make the trip.
Does anyone like the new live album? I guess different people look for
different qualities in choosing the best versions of a song. A couple
are really good versions of the songs, imo, but some are just... well,
for example, when I make my compilations, I listen to every version on
the leg, and rate them... minimum, they must be tight and Ed's voice
must be good. Then I look for great Mike solos or great Stone stuff, or
great Ed growls/screams, etc. For example, for Porch, I would always
choose a version which has Mike AND Stone playing off each other. The
version they chose has a fantastic Mike solo, but doesn't have Stone's
participation the way a great Porch should have. But NAIS is fantastic.
But the whole thing, in general, seems to have been picked for it's
versions most like the studio albums, rather than great improv and
energy. Which is maybe the point given the audience it is aimed at.
Here's hoping some people will come back...

I *just* bothered to come back and check to see if anyone responded to
my post, which I guess is a perfect example of how this place just
doesn't attract people anymore. Even me.
I go on the official message board sometimes, but it doesn't resonate
with me. I don't know... I feel like when this place was in its prime
it was full of a lot of like-minded PJ fans. The truth of the matter
is that PJ attracts a rather diverse set of people, and although any
PJ fan can find something in common with any other, I think it;s far
to say that there are some types of fans I tend to get along better
with. The official board has everybody, and it' s a little exhausting.
Yes, that's it exactly. You have to read through everyone's gripes and
whines to occasionally get an interesting post. Then the next day, if
you go back, you have to wade through it all again to find where you
left off, unless you happened to remember the page you were on in that
thread... here, you can set it so you only see new posts and can quickly
go through them. Ah well.
Post by ChaimI like the live album. Great setlist, pretty good versions of songs. I
have to be honest, though. I loved the thing. Then, right afterward, I
listened to to the Boston boot from this year, and it just totally
blows it away. Sure, the sound quality isn't nearly as good, but I
actually thought the performances were as good or perhaps even better.
I feel like they could have found some better "versions" of songs, and
after all of the live boots that have been out, it's hard to imagine
that any compilation live recording could ever come across as
"essential."
That being said, I do really like it and it has gone into regular
rotation for the time being.

It's great for casual fans, who don't want to wade through all the
bootlegs... having already done that for my many compilations, finding
the best versions of the songs I like for each leg, I would much rather
listen to them... :)
Speaking of 2010 boots, I haven't bought any, because I like to buy the
whole set. Most people just download the boots, or buy a few and
download the rest... Yet, they make me wait, and wait, and wait every
tour before they offer the box set. Wouldn't you think that they
wouldn't make their best customers (those who *buy* all the shows) wait
for so long?
Wouldn't it be better if they offer the box set at the *beginning* of
the tour (to be sent out 3 months after the tour, if that's how long it
takes to make the box)? And included in the price is the download for
each show, so you can at least listen right away...
Knowing fans as I do, most people cannot wait to hear the new shows, so
they will maybe buy a few and download the rest, or download a few with
every intention of buying the box set when/if it ever comes out. Once
they've downloaded a few shows, it ain't likely they will ever fork out
the bucks for the set when it comes out a year later... Or they give
up, like I'm about to do since the Tenclub didn't respond to my email
about when/if they are putting out a box, and just buy or download the
ones they want. If they sold the whole set in the beginning, they would
sell a ton of them riding on the excitement of the tour, and also cut
waay down on the illegal downloads. A win-win situation.
