Just a short little story....
So at the end of the day, the closing on my new house went off without
a hitch. I signed my name a million times and picked up some keys,
and a few garage door openers. I couldn't help but think of "Singles"
a little when they handed us the garage door openers. My wife and I
and each of our fathers headed to the new house with trucks of
furniture, paint, and optimism. Now with a weekends worth of sweat, a
few tears, and a drop or two of blood, we are...still no where near
moved in.
I have never been this sore in my life...or at least in the recent
past. Its a lot of work moving two people into a house when they have
their stuff spread out over 3 houses. The worst thing about the
weekend was the distractions. Some were hilarious, some were fun and
at least one was heart wrenching.
Hilarious...My brother let his dog out to do her thing one night last
week. The dog is a mix between a Bassett Hound and a Dachshund, so
basically its a fat weiner dog. When it was time for her to come back
inside they opened the door and whistled to her. She came bolting in
the door and jumped up on the couch. She was doing all the things
that dogs do, rolling around rubbing her head on the carpet and the
couch. The problem was she had been sprayed by a skunk while she was
out side. So now my brothers whole house smells.
Fun...My wife's cousin's (more like a sister) son (more like my wife's
and now my nephew) had a birthday over the weekend. The mother of
this boy throws great kids parties. She should teach a class.
Heart wrenching...my Dad comes from a good sized family. He has seven
siblings, three girls and five boys. None of the siblings or their
spouses have died, until this past week. The day before the closing
of our house, my aunts husband was helping a neighbor, and long story
short, a tree fell on him. I'm not one hundred percent positive of
the details, but he died shortly after the accident. He was a very
kind and friendly man. He wasn't a "blood" relative but i've known
him all my life and he's always friendly and happy. Uncle Jim, we'll
miss you.
