It sucked balls, left after only a few songs. If PJ decides to never
play ACL or in Texas again, I wouldn't blame them. The crowd sucked.

Yeah, final straw was the guy next to me asking me for a joint. He was
some mexican dude. I told him i didn't smoke and his response was,
"come on man, all mexicans smoke weed". I was pretty close to breaking
his nose.

This was not a PJ crowd. . . . . and the setlist sucked compared the
the previous shows.

It's very possible to leave a show by a band you like very much.
Sometimes, it's the only thing to do. I went to see a show by a band
I love very much recently, and I left after only a few songs. If you
really like someone as a performer, you don't really want to see them
unless the performance is at least in the "near optimal" ballpark. The
venue I went to pretty much sucked to begin with (and I knew it would)
with respect to sound...but I decided I'd give it a try anyway. You
put a fuzz-loving band in a cavern, and you have the makings of an
extremely puzzled audience. :) Rather than hear that, I decided to
leave. I still think my band is amazing and perhaps the most
underrated band of the past 20 years, but I'm happier hearing them at
their best, even if that means on recordings alone, than going and
seeing something live that I don't think does them justice.

I can see where if the crowd really sucked, the same type of reasoning
might apply. When I last saw Pearl Jam, I saw them in front of an
extremely inebriated, self-absorbed crowd that screamed louder about
their shopping trips than they did about the live performers in front
of them. And PJ was just stunning. I go to see a band to see the
band and hear the band, not hear and see a bunch of idiots clearly
there for the "look at me" aspect of the concert and ruining my
experience. I don't expect a symphony-respectful crowd at a rock show
people, but I do expect people to act like maybe they are there to
listen to some music. I completely understand walking out.

What sucked balls was the mud, commonly known as Dillo Dirt. Granted,
I could not see the whole crowd, but my sense was that the crowd was
loving it!

We have gone to ACL every year and this year the crowd leaving, after
the show, was huuuge and slow (slower could have been caused by the
mud). Usually they start filing out 2 songs into the headliner.

Eddie said it had been so long since they had played Austin and he
wasn't sure why, but they would be back.

another newspaper review I saw said they were the best ACL headliner
ever, I'm in total agreement.

Yeah, I'm sure it would have been great had I reserved a spot up front
12 hours before the band went on stage. Then I would have only been
pissed off at the setlist.

It was the last show of a festival so most people were either drunk or
high, very few were neither. I'm glad it was only a hour drive and the
ticket was given to me.

Maybe it was the fact that I had just come back from the Key Arena
shows which kicked ass? Either way, it sucked. I was expecting a GA PJ
show to be a bit more into it, have a little more energy not sit
around (literally.. SIT) until something from TEN was played then
start jumping around.
