My website on Jeremy Wade Delle from PJ Jeremy has grown over the last
4 years. In January 2005 I obtained a new photo of Jeremy, and in
November a key staff member who was the last adult to speak to Jeremy
besides his teacher Faye Barnett wrote to me asking to be interviewed
for my site. After a 4 hour interview some amazing information came
out. In recent weeks three friends of Jeremy have written in and amomg
other things, it appears that it was supposed to have been a double
suicide but the other person backed out. This and more information
appear at the following link - an e-mail update form is also available
for those wishing to be notified of updates to the page. SS, 2/2005.

Hey - thanks for the kind comment. I started this page four years ago
and in just the last 3 months it has really grown a lot. Jeremy was
not a monster, he was a very troubled kid who lost it due to a variety
of circumstances that culminated all at the same time. Eddie Vedder
and Pearl Jam did a service in many respects by bringing this heart
wrenching story to the World. Eddie states he wrote the song in one
night. Although the song has done a lot to bring this tragedy to the
worlds attention and shine a light on teen suicide, there was a rush
to judgment regarding the parents. The more I learn about this the
more I realize that his parents were not to blame although the song
squarely lays the blame on the parents in my opinion. I just learned
today that Jeremy's Dad tried to have the song banned, obviously
unsuccessfully. Not only did his parents wrestle with the pain of
losing their only son, one of the more famous rock songs in history
pretty much labeled them as the cause when in fact that was not the
case. There are details that I am learning literally by the hour
regarding Jeremy and the page will reflect this information as it is
received AND verified. There is a link on my page that you can click
and submit your e-mail address for when updates of this page occur so
feel free to submit your e-mail address. Having received as much as a
1000 e-mails in a week by spammers, rest assured that your e-mail
address will only be used for updates to this page. In the meantime,
mourn the loss of Jeremy and the tremendous pain his family and close
friends have endured. Plus Faye Barnett and every student in that
classroom that day. SS

Well, you do have to keep in mind that this song is a work of art, not
an accurate biographical portrayal of what happened. I feel for
Jeremy's parents, but it seems to me that the song is just based
loosely on the actual Jeremy.

True. And an important point to remember. Some blurring of lines has
occurred on the surface and is only apparent when one delves deeper
into the meaning. But when you ask the average person what the song
Jeremy is about, they'll say "that kid from Richardson." Maybe this
page can help clarify the distinction between art and reality for those
that survived this event and have been hurt by it. Based on what I've
learned, I would venture if you asked Jeremy's' Dad and Mom what the
song was about, their only answer would be "Our son."

I've always been very intrigued to know what the parents view was on the
song, because of the lyrics.

If they really weren't to blame (and surely Eddie doesn't know if they
were), and the parents tried to stop the song, I think it really sucks that
Eddie still went on with it. He could have even changed the lyrics slightly,
omitting the parts about the parents.

It would be really hard for the parents to hear the song even if it didn't
say what it does about them as it would of course bring up memories. But to
have to hear it, and hear how it blames them must be awful. Even if some
blame was to be put on them, I'm sure they still loved the kid and it must
be awful for them if they ever hear the song.

On one hand, I agree. As a parent myself I can't imagine the incredible
pain Jeremy's parents must constantly feel at the loss of their son.
And to have the pain immortalized in a Number 1 pop song blaming you
would be unbearable.

However...

Eddie has made it clear that the song is based on two real life events.
It's quite possible that the other event that he too inspiration from
did have a lot to do with the parents neglect.
Either way, I'd guess that 99% of all songs are 'fiction,' or at least
the song writer's version of events (and what 'story line' works best
for any given song).

I'm not even sure if this is an issue anymore. I would think that the
parents asked Eddie and PJ to respect their family's tragedy, and when
PJ respectfully declined the parents went on with their lives.

I don't know.... I think this discussion don't worth it, anybody
really know the true and complete history of Jeremy?.... I don`t think
so... maybe in the time the song was written ... but now...

Here is what I do know about how events transpired with the songs
release. It was out for some time before the Dad became aware of it.
When it was brought to his attention the person I spoke with who worked
at a facility here in Dallas stated that Jeremy's Dad contacted them
asking for their help in getting the song banned. Not modified but
banned. They told him that they knew of no way of getting the song
banned after discussion among themselves. At the time this occurred it
was most likely that the now banned version of the video was in play
plus the song. The person spoke with stated that after their initial
conversation with Mr. Delle about getting it banned, they did not hear
from him again. As far as Collins.cl comment, in the past 2 months
I've spoken to 3 people who were friends with Jeremy and I am finding
out the "true and complete history" of Jeremy. The website mentioned
at the start of this thread will reveal that information as it is
verified. Jeremy also sent a cassette tape out to a number of people 2
days before he took his life which arrived in the mail the day after he
died, and the tapes were turned over to the Richardson Police, but one
person contacted me that still has there tape and the contents of it is
being reviewed which will give better insight into Jeremy and why he
took his life. Keep an eye on this page in upcoming weeks as more
information is verified and added. SS

I never knew the real kid's name was Jeremy.

Seems the whole hurting and re-hurting the parents would have been
completely avoided had Ed simply changed the protagonist's name before
finishing the song.

Damn, talk about writing 101.

But, Ed didn't have writing 101, plus he had issues with parental
units in general. So, you end up with something like this, which I
don't think was put out to intentionally hurt anyone. Ed I don't
think knew all the facts; he went on an emotional hunch and came up
with a great song with unintended consequences--and life is just so
chock full of these.

I'm sorry for the family. And, I feel a certain sympathy for Ed. He
was being naive and, I'm sure, he thought true when he wrote the song.

I was wondering if you ever got to listen to the tape Jeremy sent out before he died. You said that you had acquired it somehow and nothing was ever updated, also I have an additional photo of Jeremy.
